PHYSICIANS

About our services

Physicians, Nurse Practitioners and other prescribers can work with us quite effectively, especially in the following cases:

  • A patient has allergies to dyes or bases in commercially available products
  • A patient requires a sterile product that requires special handling
  • You need a supplier for Palliative Care or Insulin Injections

Let’s work together for the safety of your patients!

We compound all types of hazardous or non-hazardous non-sterile and/or sterile products that your patients may need. We take the precautions necessary to create a safe finished product for your patient’s use.

Frequently Asked Questions

You simply write the compounded prescription order and provide it to the patient.  You may also fax it to the pharmacy of your patient’s choice.  We provide the product directly to the patient’s requested pharmacy often with same day to next day service.

No.  Health Canada’s Policy POL-0051 (Manufacturing and Compounding Drug Products in Canada) clearly identifies activities that relate to either compounding or manufacturing.  The Compounding Pharmacy of Manitoba (CPM) operates within the compounding guidelines.

As you know, certain medications are just not available due to a manufacturer shortage or they have been discontinued.

We can often still formulate that medication in our compounding pharmacy pursuant to a prescription. Some examples of products that are no longer available that we can make are Sulfamethoxazole 40mg/Trimethoprim 8mg per mL suspension; phenazopyridine 100mg capsules.  During limited supply shortages, we have compounded solutions to amoxicillin, cephalexin, azithromycin and acetaminophen suspensions.

If there are other medications you are wondering about, please just reach out to ask us anytime!

We would be happy to assist.

With the new NAPRA standards in place, not all pharmacies have updated their facilities and procedures to be compliant with all compounding standards.

Sterile Compounding

All sterile compounds must be prepared in a cleanroom that is tested and validated regularly.  All staff involved in the preparation of sterile compounds must undergo vigorous training and testing.

Non-Sterile Compounding

There are three levels of non-sterile compounding.  Level A, Level B and Level C.  Each level has specific facility and training requirements.  The Compounding Pharmacy of Manitoba can prepare compounds in all levels.
